Methow Masters Nordic Schedule

This list includes cross-country ski races and events held locally and regionally as well as some popular events in Rocky Mountain states and California. Note this has a Methow bias---if an out-of-area event conflicts with a good local event, it's probably not listed here. Only adult distances are listed here. There is a season-long cross-country competition for seniors and masters, organized by Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) and sponsored by Winthrop Mountain Sports: 2008 Pacific Northwest Senior/Master Nordic Ski Cup.

10/20/07. Driveway Butte Hillclimb. Mass start running training race from Driveway Butte Trailhead up to edge of burn area. Some masters choose to use poles. Start at 9:45 am. MVNT.

11/3/07. MVSTA Sports Swap, Winthrop Barn, 10 am.

11/3/07. MVNT Ski Ball, Sun Mountain Lodge, 5:30 pm. Fundraiser for Junior programs.

11/4/07. Driveway Butte Hillclimb. Start at 9:45 am. If there is enough snow, workout will instead be a skiing time trial at Washington Pass. MVNT.

11/22/07. Thanksgiving Day. During Thanksgiving week, Methow Masters will be found skiing here at home, at Sovereign Lake/Silver Star, and West Yellowstone!

12/9/07. Training race, skate technique, Chickadee Trailhead, 10 am. Time trial format (individual starts). Put on by the junior team; masters welcome. MVNT.

12/13-12/16/07. Methow Valley Cross Country Ski Camp at Sun Mountain Lodge. MVNC.

12/22/07. Training race, classic technique, Chickadee Trailhead, 10 am. Time trial format (individual starts). Put on by the junior team; masters welcome. MVNT.

12/29/07. Ski Rodeo. 5 or 10 k Freestyle race, Mazama. Easy, gently rolling loop.MVSTA.

12/29/07. Biathlon Safety and Marksmanship Clinic. Learn rifle safety, get certified to shoot a biathlon rifle, and learn beginning marksmanship skills. Afternoon after Ski Rodeo. Mazama. MV Biathlon Association.

12/30/07. New Year's Eve Blast Biathlon Race. 12k. Mazama. MVBA.

12/31/07. Wooden Ski Race. 1^st Annual, in Mazama. Wear wool and wooden skis to celebrate the history and beauty of skiing! 5 km course and kids' events. The ultimate gear list for this event: wooden skis, bamboo poles, 3-pin bindings, leather boots. Time will be added for Lycra! 12:30 pm Registration and Pine Tar Clinic. 2 pm Start. 3:30 pm Costume contest, awards, food, music. $10 entry fee, kids under 10 free, $25 for families of 3 or more. 1/12-1/13/08. Methow Valley Nordic Members Ski Clinic in Mazama. MVNC.

1/12/08. Skirennen Gran Prix. 10k freestyle on fast, gently rolling golf course trails, Leavenworth. LWSC.

1/19-1/20/08. Methow Pursuit. A one or two day event for all levels. 15k classic at Sun Mountain Trails followed by a 30k freestyle from Mazama to Winthrop. MVSTA.

1/19/08. Salmon Bake. Fundraiser for the MV Junior programs. Winthrop Barn. MVNT.

1/27/08. Gunnar Hagen Memorial. 30k or 10 k classic. Cabin Creek trail system, Snoqualmie Pass, WA.Kongsberger Ski Club.

2/2/08. Bavarian Cup. 10k classic, rolling terrain, Ski Hill trails, Leavenworth. May be 2 days of racing offered because of Junior Olympic Qualifier; stay tuned. LWSC.

2/2/08. Boulder Mountain Tour. 30k freestyle. Sun Valley, Idaho.

2/9/08. Rendezvous Mountain Tour. 30k freestyle, Cub Creek Trailhead to Mazama. MVSTA.

2/16/08. Tour of the Methow. Untimed tour; choose to ski 20, 30, 50, 60, or 80 k. Followed by MV Nordic Club annual potluck at Liberty Bell High School lunch room, 5:30 pm. MVNC.

2/17/08. Doggie Dash. Fun race with dogs around the Winthrop Town Trailhead oval. MVNC.

2/17/08. Kongsberger Stampede. 15k freestyle. Cabin Creek trail system, Snoqualmie Pass, WA. KSC.

2/23/08. Hog Loppet Tour. 30k untimed tour. Start at Mission Ridge, finish at Blewett Pass. Groomed most of the way; skating is possible but classic perhaps more enjoyable.

Bus shuttles from Leavenworth and Wenatchee available. LWSC.

2/23/08. Yellowstone Rendezvous Race. 25k classic, 25 or 50k freestyle. West Yellowstone, Montana.

2/23/08. American Birkebeiner. 53k freestyle. Hayward, Wisconsin.

2/28-3/8/08. Masters World Cup 2008. Week of racing for Masters of all ages and abilities, McCall, Idaho. The biggest skiing event in the Pacific Northwest this year!

3/1/08. MV Winter Triathlon. Mountain bike, ski, run in a big loop from Winthrop Barn. MVSTA.

3/2/08. The Great Ski Race. 30k freestyle. Tahoe City to Truckee, California.

3/8/08. Sovereign Lake Loppet. 30k classic race on hilly course. Sovereign Lake Nordic Center, Vernon, BC. SLNC.

3/16/08. California Gold Rush. 42 or 21k freestyle. Donner Summit, California.

3/22/08. Ozbaldy Marathon. 50k freestyle. Cabin Creek trail system, Snoqualmie Pass, WA. KSC.

3/22/08. Cascade Crest Tour. 30 k freestyle. Mt. Bachelor, Bend, OR. MBSEF.
