Methow Masters Nordic Schedule 2009-10

This list includes cross-country ski races and events held locally and regionally as well as some popular events in Rocky Mountain states and California. Note this has a Methow bias---if an out-of-area event conflicts with a good local event, it's probably not listed here. Only adult distances are listed here. Please check back later this fall for additional events, including local ski training races (time trial format) put on by the MVN Team and Club. Remember that some ski areas require parking permit(s). Some, like the wonderful Loup Loup South Summit trails, which are groomed every Friday morning, require only a Sno-Park permit ($40 season). Others, such as the Cabin Creek trails (Kongsberger Ski Club) and Mt. Spokane, also require a special grooming sticker ($40 season), or the purchase of a one-day Sno-Park permit ($20). Washington State permits can be purchased online: http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/permits/.

There is a season-long cross-country competition for seniors and masters, organized by Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) and sponsored by Winthrop Mountain Sports.

11/1/09. 4th Annual Driveway Butte Hillclimb. Start at 10 am, Driveway Butte Trailhead, Klipchuk Campground. A running race up a rather steep trail. Some masters choose to use poles. For results, contact masters@mvnordic.com. MVNT.

11/7/09. MVSTA Sports Swap, Winthrop Barn, 10 am.

11/14/09. MVNT Ski Ball, Winthrop Barn, 5:30 pm. Fundraiser for Junior programs.

11/26/09. Thanksgiving Day. During Thanksgiving week, Methow Masters will be found skiing here at home, at Sovereign Lake/Silver Star, and West Yellowstone!

12/17-12/20/09. Methow Valley Cross Country Ski Camp at Sun Mountain Lodge. MVNC.

12/27/09. Ski Rodeo. 5 or 10 k Freestyle race, Mazama. Easy, gently rolling loop. MVSTA.

12/31/09. Wooden Ski Race. 3rd Annual, in Mazama. Wear wool and wooden skis to celebrate the history and beauty of skiing! 5 km course and kids' events. The ultimate gear list for this event: wooden skis, bamboo poles, 3-pin bindings, leather boots. Time will be added for Lycra! Details TBA. All proceeds to benefit MVN. 1/9-1/10/10. Methow Valley Nordic Members Ski Clinic in Mazama. MVNC.

1/9/10. Skirennen Gran Prix, Leavenworth, WA. 10k freestyle on fast, gently rolling golf course trails, Leavenworth.

1/16-1/17/10. Methow Valley Super Tour. Freestyle sprints on Saturday, distance classic races on Sunday. Interval start. MVSTA.

1/24/10. Gunnar Hagen Memorial. 30k or 10 k classic. Cabin Creek trail system, Snoqualmie Pass, WA.Kongsberger Ski Club.

1/28-1/30/10. 2010 National Masters Championship. A long weekend of racing in Craftsbury, VT, culminating in a classic ski marathon.

1/31/10. Kelowna Apple Loppet. A 2-person relay or individual continuous pursuit, 15k classic + 15k skate. Kelowna, BC. Online registration at zone4.ca, 1/25 is early reg deadline.

2/6/10. Boulder Mountain Tour. 30k freestyle. Sun Valley, Idaho.

2/12-2/28/10. Methow Olympic Festival. MVSTA.

2/13/10. Tour of the Methow. Untimed tour; choose to ski 20, 30, 50, 60, or 80 k. Followed by MV Nordic Club annual potluck at the Winthrop Barn, 5:30 pm. MVNC.

2/14/10. Doggie Dash. Fun race with dogs around the Winthrop Town Trailhead oval. MVNC.

2/14/10. Spokane Langlauf. 10k classic. Mt. Spokane, WA.

2/14/10. Nickel Plate Loppet Loppet. 30 km classic. Nickel Plate Nordic (near Apex alpine area), Penticton, BC.

2/20-2/21/10. Spokane Nordic Pursuit. A 2-day pursuit with 10k classic Saturday and 10k skate Sunday. Early reg closes 2/18, $50 for 2 days. Mt. Spokane, WA.

2/23-2/24/10. Two-Day Ski Camp. By Laura McCabe and Leslie Hall. MVSTA.

2/27/10. Methow Community Trail Race. 30 km freestyle from Mazama to Winthrop. MVSTA.

2/27/10. Full Moon Ski and Potluck Dinner. Casual tour after dark in Mazama. 5:30 pm, Mazama Community Center. MVNC.

2/27/10. American Birkebeiner. 53k freestyle. Hayward, Wisconsin.

2/27/10. Hog Loppet Tour. 30k untimed tour. Start at Mission Ridge, finish at Blewett Pass. Groomed most of the way; skating is possible but classic perhaps more enjoyable. Bus shuttles from Leavenworth and Wenatchee available. LWSC.

3/7/10. Ozbaldy Marathon. 50k freestyle, also 10k race. Cabin Creek trail system, Snoqualmie Pass, WA. KSC.

3/7/10. The Great Ski Race. 30k freestyle. Tahoe City to Truckee, California.

3/6/10. MV Winter Triathlon. Mountain bike, ski, run in a big loop from Winthrop Barn. MVSTA.

3/6/10. Sovereign Lake Loppet. 30k race on hilly course. Technique alternates each year. Sovereign Lake Nordic Center, Vernon, BC. SLNC.

3/7/10. Blackjack Loppet. 30k freestyle race on hilly course. Blackjack Nordic Center, Rossland, BC.

3/10/10. Yellowstone Rendezvous Race. 25k classic, 25 or 50k freestyle. West Yellowstone, Montana.

3/13/10. Cascade Crest Tour. 30 k freestyle. Mt. Bachelor, Bend, OR. MBSEF.

3/28/10. California Gold Rush. 42 or 21k freestyle. Donner Summit, California.
