Take advantage of this opportunity to improve your skiing regardless of your current ability. The Methow Valley Cross Country Ski Camp is the ideal place to improve your Camp participants, photo by Jim Greggtechnique and fitness level. We are open to adult skiers aged 16 and older, of ANY ability from first time skiers to highly competitive athletes. Skiers may choose coaching in skating only or both classic and skate technique. (We strongly encourage everyone to choose both techniques. You will need different equipment for each technique.) Bring your own ski equipment or rent gear for the weekend at great rates. Please note: Classic skiing only during the camp is not an option.

A 3-time Olympian and fifteen-year member of the US Ski Team, Leslie Thompson Hall currently lives in the Methow Valley and is an Assistant Coach of the Junior Nordic Ski Team. Don Portman, the owner/director of the Methow Valley Ski School, is the founding father of  MVSTA and the man to thank for the valley's great trail system.  Don has over thirty years experience instructing Nordic skiing.  Former US Ski Team member. Laura McCabe is a two time Olympian, has skied for the Fisher/Solomon Factory Team and is the former head coach of the Methow Valley Jr. Ski Team.  Mazama residents Scott Johnston and Midge Cross are indispensable to the Methow Valley Nordic and Junior Ski team coaching staff. Both Scott and Midge are former competitors for the Fischer/Salomon Marathon Team and have been coaching and instructing Nordic skiing for many years.  Phil Woras has been involved in coaching Coach Phil Woras, photo by Jim Greggand instructing Nordic skiing since 1974 when he began instructing in Jackson, New Hampshire.  Since then, Phil has been an instructor, program director, backcountry guide and ski racer in 4 states.  Bret Alumbaugh a long-time Methow Valley ski instructor and currently Head Examiner for PSIA Northwest in both classic and skate skiing; Laurie Fry a Methow Valley ski instructor since 1993 and fully certified PSIA instructor. Diane Childs has an extensive history ski instructing and coaching for the Methow Valley Jr. Ski Team. Margaret Waechter is a former Canadian Ski Team member who holds a degree in exercise physiology and previously was the Head Coach for the Vernon BC Junior Ski Team. Steve Hindman, past director of skiing and snow boarding at Stevens Pass and the author of Cross Country Skiing: Building Skills for Fun & Fitness is currently serving a four-year term on the National Nordic Team of the PSIA. Jack Hart joins us for another year.  A favorite at the Methow Valley Cross Country Ski Camp,  Jack has been involved in the ski industry for years and has a strong background in ski instructing, equipment and racing. Alan Watson, former University of Utah, Nordic ski coach joins us again this year as does Sonya Stoklosa former Fischer/Salomon Camp participants, photo by Jim GreggMarathon Team skier from Seattle. Joe Brown is owner of Methow Valley Cycle and Sport, an avid ski and bike racer, and a coach at many MVN camps and clinics. Karla Segale is a personal trainer and fitness instructor at Winthrop Fitnes, a Methow Valley Junior Nordic Ski Team coach and a Masters World Medalist in cross country skiing.

Don't let their resumes fool you! This is a group of dedicated fun-hogs whose goals are set on providing you the opportunity to make this ski season your best ever - whether it's picking up a medal on race day or finally mastering the art of staying vertical!

COACHING PROGRAM: To assure maximum individual attention, group sizes will be kept small. SKIERS WILL BE GROUPED BY ABILITY IN ORDER TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EVERY SKILL LEVEL. Each day's schedule includes two skiing sessions along with one detailed video analysis with your coach. "Beginners-only" groups will stay near the Lodge, snow permitting.

CLINICS: Swix will host a waxing clinic on Thursday night and provide a waxing coach each morning and evening throughout the Camp Camp participants, photo by Jim Greggto assist with your waxing questions. Although wax benches, irons, and a limited quantity of Swix glide wax will be provided, we encourage you to bring your favorite waxing tools.  Former Olympic Team Physical Therapist Peter Dickinson will host stretching sessions on Friday and Saturday along with a presentation geared towards ski specific training. Again this year we will have daily morning yoga sessions with yoga instructor Kelle Ronnfeldt.  Winthrop Mountain Sports, in partnership with Fischer/Salomon, will give a presentation on equipment selection and Nordic Ultratune will present on ski care.

SPECIAL DEALS!! Winthrop Mountain Sports will offer 20% off on all ski equipment for Camp participants only starting on Thursday the 13th and running all weekend long!!. The store will have expanded hours (open until 9pm) on Friday and Saturday to allow campers plenty of time to take advantage of the sale. Pre-registered campers can stop and shop on Thursday en route to Sun Mountain. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY: Fischer, Salomon and Atomic will have equipment available to demo (one session per person only, please) throughout the Camp! For participants needing to rent equipment, both Sun Mountain Lodge (509-996-2211) and Winthrop Mountain Sports (509-996-2886) have both classic and skating gear available to rent for the weekend.  We encourage everyone to try both techniques and to set up gear rental ahead of time.

Camp participants, photo by Jim GreggGREAT FOOD! Lunches and snacks are included in the camp cost. Breakfast and Dinner are not included in the cost of the camp, but the Sun Mountain dining room will be open for your dining pleasure.

LODGING: Experience the best of the Northwest! Sun Mountain Lodge offers four-diamond facilities at bargain prices for camp participants and their families. Rooms are available at Sun Mountain Lodge starting at $75 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy.  Additional persons are $25 per person per night. CAMP COST ($330/person) INCLUDES: Coaching, trail passes, wax instruction, lunches, video analysis, seminars, afternoon snacks, along with a commemorative Smartwool ski hat and other great stuff! Space for this camp is limited to 100 people.

EQUIPMENT: For participants needing to rent equipment, both Sun Mountain Lodge (509-996-2211) and Winthrop Mountain Sports (509-996-2886) have both classic and skating gear available to rent for the weekend. We encourage Allison DeLong, photo by Jim Greggeveryone to try both techniques and to set up gear rental ahead of time. If you are planning on renting equipment, please make your arrangements in advance and come to camp on Friday morning READY TO SKI!!! The Sun Mountain Ski Shop plans to open early on Friday morning, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that camp participants NOT wait until the last minute to secure gear. Call ahead!

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY: Fischer and Salomon will have equipment available to demo (one session per person only, please) throughout the Camp. However supplies are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

WAXING FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT: We would like to encourage people to bring their own waxing tools with them to Camp. We will have a wax room at Sun Mountain Lodge with waxing benches and irons available, but please bring your own scrapers, brushes, kick wax and glide wax. These items are available for sale at the Sun Mountain Ski shop or at Winthrop Mountain Sports. A waxing coach will be in the wax room each morning and evening throughout the Camp to assist with your waxing questions.
